BIOMASS

What is biomass?

Biomass is a broad term which is used to describe material of recent biological origin that can be used as a source of energy or for its chemical components. As such, it includes forestry residues, crops, algae, agricultural and urban by-products.

Biomass is a source of renewable energy because it is inexhaustible when managed properly.

NEUTRAL CO2 BALANCE
  • Plants use solar energy to grow.
  • This energy is stored as organic matter based on hydrocarbons.
  • All the CO2 emitted in the use of this organic matter came from the atmosphere, and returns into the atmosphere, closing the CO2 cycle with a neutral balance.
