Research and Development

The GUASCOR GROUP, within its commitment to continuos improvement and the implementation of new technologies, has created its own research and investigation centre: GUASCOR I+D.

In operation since September 1996, and located in the Technological Park in Álava, GUASCOR I+D is the engineering headquarters for the GUASCOR GROUP, as well as being the test centre for alternative engines and cogeneration sets.

GUASCOR I+D has 22 engine test benches, equipped with hydraulic brakes, gearbox for 1,800 rpm, alternators, resistance cells, an electronics' laboratory and an engine instrumentation and assembly work-shop. This centre studies and analyzes to be made of: the combustion processes; the emission measurements on the gas and diesel engines; the evaluation of engine behaviour and endurance tests, which determines the maintenance periods and procedures; the behaviour tests for components, the lubricating oils, etc.

Among all of the instrumentation present, we have to mention that there is a gas chromatograph which continually, and accurately, measures the richness of the mixes and their performance index for the engine.

Computer simulation

In the test centre, the engines are subjected to rigorous computer simulated analysis, which is used to optimise their design; achieving a longer working life and obtaining a more efficient operation
.

Integrated design management

GUASCOR I+D has implemented a new Integrated Design Management methodology. This methodology is based on one of the most advanced CAD tools and stress analysis for finite elements, and from its database it manages more than 4,000 tri-dimensional engine components.

Nowadays, the GUASCOR GROUP's research and development centre for gas and diesel engines is considered to be one of the most advanced in the world.
