Energy recovery from solid municipal waste sits (SMW)

The biogas or landfill gas is generated in a natural way as the organic residues contained in the rubbish decompose. This biogas, which is collected by degasification systems on controlled landfill sites has a methane content of around 50%, and is used as a fuel for the GUASCOR engines.

The landfill biogas is collected by means of a series of wells and a channelling system. This system is made up of a series of slotted tubes through which the biogas is directed to the measuring and regulating station, where it is cleaned up and dehumifified.

After treatment, the biogas is fed to GUASCOR gensets , where it is transformed into electrical energy which is exported to the national grid after what is needed for its own installations has been deducted. The excess of biogas is carried on to a burn-off point.

GUASCOR installations similar to the one described above are already operating in various national and international landfill sites.
